The capital infusion will establish a new innovation platform focused on refrigerant research, thermal management systems, and advanced toxicology testing. A dedicated laboratory for energy storage materials will also be constructed on-site. This expansion targets high-growth markets, leveraging the facility’s long-standing technical expertise to move new solutions from the lab to commercial application.
Solstice Advanced Materials to Invest $49 Million in Buffalo R&D Hub
Solstice Advanced Materials is pouring $49 million into its Buffalo research campus to accelerate the development of next-generation cooling and energy storage technologies. The project, backed by $1.4 million in state tax credits, aims to modernize the historic facility while creating 12 new full-time positions by mid-2027.

Since opening in 1955, the Buffalo site has served as a cornerstone for the company’s patent portfolio, contributing to over 3,700 global inventions. Currently employing 180 scientists and engineers, the campus remains central to Solstice’s strategy for advancing materials science. Governor Kathy Hochul noted that the commitment reinforces New York's position in the green technology sector, blending job creation with industrial research. The funding package, facilitated through the Excelsior Jobs Program, hinges on the company meeting specific capital investment and hiring milestones over the next two years.
