The volunteer efforts focused on tangible local needs across the state. In Pontiac, team members hauled truckloads of discarded tires from the Vermillion River, while in East St. Louis, staff partnered with the Urban League and the Regional Business Council to demolish abandoned properties. Other efforts were directed toward social support, such as building beds for the nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Alton and packing over 5,500 diapers for the United Way of Champaign County.
Illinois American Water Employees Log 475 Hours of Volunteer Service
Over the course of September, 125 Illinois American Water employees traded their standard utility duties for community service, contributing more than 475 hours to local nonprofits. The initiative, branded as the AmerICANs In Action! Month of Service, spanned 13 locations and targeted issues ranging from food insecurity to environmental cleanup.

Rebecca Losli, President of Illinois American Water, noted that the projects reflect a commitment to the regions where the company’s staff live and operate. Ryan Lawrence, Executive Director of Heart Haven OutReach in Bolingbrook, echoed this sentiment, stating that corporate partnerships are essential for increasing the capacity of local organizations to assist students and families. The company intends to continue these outreach programs as part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility strategy.
