The new Spotlight Menu tool integrates short-form video reels directly into restaurant websites, allowing owners to showcase dish preparation, loyalty rewards, and brand stories. By pairing these visuals with AI-driven search capabilities, the platform aims to capture the attention of younger consumers accustomed to TikTok and Instagram content. CEO Brendan Sweeney argues that in a landscape where diners are becoming more selective with their spending, visual engagement is no longer optional.
Popmenu pivots to short-form video to capture restaurant diners
Eighty-two percent of diners are more likely to order a dish if they see a video of it first, a finding that is pushing Atlanta-based Popmenu to overhaul digital menus. The company is replacing static text with an Instagram-style interface to help restaurants stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

Data from a 2026 survey of 1,000 U.S. consumers underscores this shift in behavior, as average weekly restaurant spending has dropped to $100 from $115 in mid-2025. With nearly 70% of consumers reporting they are actively reducing dining expenditures, the pressure on restaurants to convert online visitors into paying customers has intensified. Popmenu, which currently supports over 12,000 restaurants, intends for this video-first approach to serve as a digital control center that makes dishes impossible to ignore for budget-conscious guests.
