ING Deploys AI Agents to Reclaim Relationship Manager Time

Rather than seeking to slash headcount, ING is integrating a suite of four AI agents to strip away administrative friction. Anneka Treon, global head of private banking, aims to pivot the bank’s relationship managers away from repetitive data entry and toward high-value, human-centric client advisory work.

The bank’s internally developed Commercial Assistance Suite focuses on four pillars: KYC protocols, investment expertise, sales coaching, and meeting preparation. By automating the onboarding process for legal entities, the KYC agent has already demonstrated a capacity to save 45 minutes per task. These tools are slated for a full rollout across the Netherlands and Belgium by the end of 2026.

Beyond basic efficiency, the investment expert module allows bankers to synthesize portfolio performance and market news through conversational interfaces. Meanwhile, the sales coaching agent analyzes successful client interactions to provide peer feedback. While Treon views this as a "head to heart" strategy—using digital efficiency to facilitate deeper conversations—she maintains a cautious stance on client-facing implementation, prioritizing governance and risk protection as the technology matures.
