The summit, hosted by the World Green Design Organization and SINA Group, prioritizes cross-border collaboration by embedding United Nations agencies directly into the program. Organizers intend to move beyond closed-door professional discussions by hosting the second Green Industry and Sustainable Consumption Expo, which invites the public to engage with circular economy models and sustainable marketplaces.
Global Sustainability Summit Convenes in Shanghai
More than 300 international delegates, including Nobel and Turing Award laureates, have converged on Shanghai’s Huangpu district for the 2026 Sustainability Global Leaders Conference. Running through October 22, the event shifts the focus from theoretical policy to practical industrial renewal and the integration of sustainability into daily consumer life.

Intellectual heavyweights anchor the event's agenda, with keynotes from 2010 Nobel Physics laureate Andre Geim, 2013 Nobel Medicine laureate Thomas C. Südhof, and 2007 Turing Award winner Joseph Sifakis. A central dialogue on the societal impact of artificial intelligence will feature Cambridge professor emeritus Alan Macfarlane and Max Planck Institute director Xiang Biao. These sessions aim to bridge the gap between rapid technological advancement and human development, offering a platform to share global perspectives on climate resilience and the international expansion of Chinese industrial practices.
