Xi Jinping Pushes Agricultural Modernization in Shandong Inspection

As China nears the completion of its critical summer harvest, the leader called for robust implementation of supportive policies to secure national food security and revitalize rural living standards.

While visiting Dongyujia Village, Xi engaged with farmers and machinery operators to assess the summer grain cycle—a period involving harvesting, planting, and field management. Wheat, the primary component of this season, accounts for roughly 40 percent of China’s annual food supply. Official data indicates that over 96 percent of the national wheat harvest was completed by mid-June, setting the stage for subsequent planting of corn and soybeans.

Su Wei, a professor at the Party School of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, noted that Dezhou serves as a model for blending traditional rural operations with modern mechanization and professional services. This approach aligns with the 15th Five-Year Plan, which prioritizes technological integration and fiscal support to elevate rural quality of life. The push for modernization is framed as a foundational pillar for national stability, following a 2025 grain output that reached a record 1.4298 trillion jin.

In Xiyujia Village, the focus shifted to the role of local Party organizations. Xi emphasized that these grassroots units are essential for coordinating resources and public services. Experts suggest that as the country advances toward its 2035 modernization goals, the ability of local leadership to channel technology and support directly to farmers will determine the success of the broader rural revitalization strategy.
