Kenneth Griffin Pledges $26 Million to Theodore Roosevelt Library

A $26 million donation from Citadel founder Kenneth C. Griffin will anchor the final stages of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota. The contribution secures naming rights for the facility’s west wing, which is set to debut on July 4, 2026, coinciding with the nation’s semiquincentennial.

The Kenneth C. Griffin West Wing serves as the primary gateway for the new campus, housing both permanent and temporary exhibition spaces. Designed by the architectural firm Snøhetta, the structure aims to function as a central hub for civic education and conservation programs. Edward F. O'Keefe, CEO of the presidential library, noted that the facility seeks to extend leadership training beyond coastal urban centers and into the heart of the Badlands.

Griffin stated that the gift reflects a commitment to the enduring ideals championed by the 26th president. The library is slated to be the first carbon-neutral institution of its kind, integrating sustainable design with the surrounding North Dakota ecology. The project represents a significant philanthropic effort by Griffin Catalyst, which focuses on education, science, and democratic engagement.
