EVA Air Launches First Nonstop Route Connecting D.C. and Taipei

A ceremonial water cannon salute greeted the inaugural EVA Air flight at Washington Dulles International Airport this week, marking the airline’s first nonstop service between the U.S. capital and Taiwan. The new route serves as the carrier's 10th North American gateway, aimed at bolstering trade and tourism across the Pacific.

The launch, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-Yu and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority CEO Jack Potter, establishes a direct link between the two regions. The service operates four times weekly using Boeing 787-9 aircraft, configured to offer Royal Laurel, Premium Economy, and Economy classes. Officials emphasized that the connection is designed to meet steady demand from multinational corporations and international organizations located in the D.C. metropolitan area.

For passengers, the route provides a strategic hub in Taipei, facilitating onward travel to destinations throughout East and Southeast Asia. EVA Air President Clay Sun stated that the expansion reflects the airline’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the eastern United States. The flight schedule connects the two cities on a recurring basis, with the carrier positioning the service as a vital bridge for business, academic, and leisure travelers looking for direct access to Taiwan’s technological and cultural center.
