Cabrellon marks 60 years with sustainable move to Tritan Renew

As European regulators enforce strict bans on bisphenol A, Italian mold manufacturer Cabrellon Srl is celebrating six decades of business by shifting its industrial chocolate molds to Eastman Tritan™ Renew, a material containing 25% certified recycled content that replaces traditional, but increasingly restricted, polycarbonate.

The partnership between the two companies spans over a decade, predating the European Commission’s recent Regulation (EU) 2024/3190, which now mandates the removal of BPA from food-contact materials. Cinzia Cabrellon, CEO of the Italian firm, noted that the company chose to pivot away from polycarbonate long before it became a regulatory necessity, betting that a BPA-free copolyester could match or surpass industry standards for durability and precision.

Major confectioners, including Leone 1857, have already integrated these molds into their production lines. Fabio Allaix, R&D manager at Leone 1857, cited the material's structural integrity and safety profile as primary drivers for the switch. Beyond chemical compliance, Tritan Renew utilizes molecular recycling technology to lower the carbon footprint of the molds while maintaining the clarity and shatter resistance required for high-speed industrial chocolate production.
