Sweden Commissions Largest Nordic Battery Storage Facility in Ånge

A 70 MW, 160 MWh battery energy storage system has officially entered commercial operation in Ånge, Sweden. Developed by Delta Capacity and equipped with Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 technology, the facility is designed to stabilize the Swedish power grid by providing rapid frequency regulation and arbitrage within the volatile Nordic electricity market.

The project reached commercial viability just 15 months after procurement began, highlighting the rapid expansion of Sweden's storage infrastructure. Located in bidding zone SE2, the site serves as a critical balancing asset, addressing the flexibility gap inherent in the country’s renewable-heavy energy transition. The facility is owned by a joint venture between Delta Capacity and WOOD & Company Renewables Sub-Fund, with Centrica Energy handling around-the-clock electricity trading.

Samer Nameer, Sungrow’s country manager for Sweden, emphasized that the Ånge installation demonstrates the viability of large-scale energy storage when paired with efficient deployment strategies. For Delta Capacity, the site represents a significant milestone in their broader strategy to manage over 6 GWh of flexible assets by 2030. Industry data indicates that Sweden and Finland collectively added more than 1 GWh of new battery capacity in 2025 alone, reflecting a shifting regulatory landscape that now allows storage providers to participate more effectively in national balancing markets.
