The new jet is the first of two 737-8s secured through the Dubai-based lessor, signaling a push to enhance fuel efficiency and operational range. Somon Air CEO Abdulkosim Valiev noted that the aircraft’s improved capability allows the airline to refine its route economics while targeting new destinations, including London, Beijing, and Guangzhou. The 737-8 is expected to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20% compared to the older generation models it replaces.
Somon Air Welcomes Tajikistan’s First Boeing 737 MAX
Tajikistan’s national carrier has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s fleet modernization strategy. The aircraft, leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, stands as the first 737 MAX to operate within the Central Asian nation, providing a platform for expanded international service.
This delivery follows a broader commitment announced last year to acquire up to 14 Boeing aircraft, including 787 Dreamliners. Since its inception in 2008, Somon Air has operated an all-Boeing fleet from its Dushanbe hub. The current expansion is part of a long-term goal to transition from a regional operator into a more prominent international carrier. DAE Capital, which maintains a portfolio of over 190 aircraft in the 737 MAX family, highlighted the move as a key step in supporting the airline’s growth across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
