AFSP Illinois Sets $1 Million Goal for 2026 Suicide Prevention Walks
The Illinois chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has unveiled its 2026 schedule for the Out of the Darkness Community Walks, a series of 14 events running from September through October. The campaign aims to raise over $1 million to bolster mental health awareness and fund life-saving resources.
Participation is free, with organizers encouraging attendees to form teams or donate directly if they cannot attend in person. The events are part of a broader national initiative designed to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health. Executive Director Angela Cummings emphasized that the collective effort is intended to demonstrate that no one has to navigate their mental health challenges in isolation. The series kicks off September 12 in Cobden and Galesburg, culminating in mid-October events in Belleville and East Peoria.
