Clipper Magazine Faces Class Action Over Alleged Labor Code Violations

Employees at Clipper Magazine LLC are accusing the company of systemic labor violations, including the failure to provide mandatory meal periods and rest breaks. The class action lawsuit, filed in San Diego County Superior Court, claims the firm systematically underpaid staff while requiring them to work through off-duty intervals.

Clipper Magazine Faces Class Action Over Alleged Labor Code Violations

The complaint, filed by the San Diego-based law firm Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP, alleges that Clipper Magazine LLC violated multiple sections of the California Labor Code. According to the court filing, Case No. 26CU036891C, staff were frequently denied legally required ten-minute rest periods during shifts lasting between two and ten hours. The lawsuit further contends that the company required employees to perform work assignments while clocked out for meal breaks, effectively rounding time to avoid penalty payments.

Beyond missed breaks, the litigation lists a broad range of wage and hour grievances. Plaintiffs allege the company failed to provide accurate itemized wage statements, neglected to reimburse mandatory business expenses, and withheld sick pay and overtime wages. By allegedly mismanaging these labor standards, the company now faces civil penalties under state regulations, including California Labor Code sections 201-203, 510, and 2802.
