Maryland American Water Awards $50,000 for STEM and Career Programs
Five Maryland nonprofits have secured $50,000 in funding through the American Water Charitable Foundation to bolster workforce development and STEM education. The grants, distributed under the Keep Communities Flowing program, target skill-building initiatives for students and young adults across the region to prepare them for future professional success.
Phil Hosmer, executive director of Nature Worx, noted that the grant will facilitate hands-on environmental education for hundreds of young people in Central Maryland. Laura Runkle, president of Maryland American Water, emphasized that the investment aims to strengthen the local economy by equipping the next generation with technical confidence. The Foundation, which has invested over $25 million in community projects since 2012, funds these initiatives entirely through American Water shareholders rather than customer rates.
