Samsung Mocks Apple’s iPhone Duo Launch as ‘Reheated Leftovers’

Samsung has launched a biting social media campaign against Apple’s new $1,999 iPhone Duo, dismissing the tech giant’s first foldable device as stale innovation. The aggressive marketing move targets Apple’s late entry into the market, framing the long-awaited hardware as a derivative iteration of technology Samsung pioneered seven years ago.

The public spat intensified immediately following Apple’s announcement, with Samsung’s official US account posting, “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers.” This follows a series of promotional videos highlighting the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the world's lightest foldable, contrasting sharply with Apple’s high-profile debut. Samsung maintains a significant head start, having released approximately 20 foldable models since 2019.

Apple executives remain defiant against the criticism. John Ternus, Apple’s lead on the project, characterized the iPhone Duo as a transformational shift, dismissing competitors’ devices as “two phones awkwardly stuck together.” The debate has even drawn in third-party brands, with Duolingo’s mascot mocking Apple’s naming choice for the ‘Duo’ branding. Despite the ridicule, Apple positions its design as a distinct evolution rather than a mere iteration of existing industry standards.
