The driver, published under an MIT license, supports ROS 2 Humble and Jazzy on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04. It facilitates connectivity via RS-422 or CAN-FD, pushing data directly into standard sensor_msgs topics. The package includes the node, a library for COBS decoding, and specific message types stamped with the unit's internal clock, all configurable through YAML files.
OSCP Opens ROS 2 Driver for MK2 Inertial Sensors
Robots navigating indoor spaces often struggle with heading drift when GPS signals fail. To streamline integration for autonomous systems, Montreal-based OSCP has released an open-source ROS 2 driver for its MK2 inertial measurement units, aiming to eliminate the need for custom parsing in navigation stacks.

OSCP founder Kazem Zandi emphasized that the goal is to provide clean data ingestion rather than just another hardware datasheet. The driver, authored by robotics engineering intern Rayan Raad, exposes services for stationary bias calibration and magnetometer tuning. This release coincides with the company’s presence at ROSCon Global in Toronto, where the team is demonstrating the performance gap between standard MEMS gyroscopes and the company’s photonic-based Z-axis sensors. In recent road tests through Montreal, the photonic-equipped MK2E2 finished significantly closer to ground truth than its MEMS-only counterpart, illustrating a performance advantage for platforms operating in high-vibration environments.
