Steel Framework Completed at New Melrose Engine 2 Fire Station

The 24,000-square-foot facility is the centerpiece of the first phase of the city’s Public Safety Buildings Project. Designed to serve the community for decades, the station will feature three apparatus bays, a maintenance area, administrative offices, fitness rooms, and dedicated sleeping quarters for personnel. While construction continues, Engine 2 crews remain operational, working out of the city's main fire headquarters to ensure emergency response times remain unaffected.

Pat Tompkins, principal at CTA Construction Managers, credited the milestone to the precision of the trade partners and the collaborative effort between the city and the design team. The project leverages long-standing professional relationships, including a 13-year history between CTA, the owner’s project manager Vertex, and the architectural firm Dore & Whittier. With the steel frame now locked in place, crews are pivoting to mechanical and electrical installations as the broader initiative to modernize Melrose’s public safety infrastructure moves toward completion.
