Starting September 30, 2026, the interoperability bridge enables approximately 48 million eligible Binance Pay users to utilize their accounts across Japan. By leveraging the HIVEX infrastructure, Binance aims to simplify cross-border spending for dining, retail, and accommodation, effectively merging crypto-based wallets with the country's established QR code payment rails.
Binance Pay Integrates with HIVEX to Unlock Japan for Travelers
Overseas visitors to Japan can now spend digital assets at millions of local merchants, following a new integration between Binance Pay and the HIVEX payment framework. The move allows travelers to settle transactions at any location supporting PayPay, while retailers continue to receive payments in Japanese yen.
Thomas Gregory, VP of Payments & Fiat at Binance, noted that the partnership reflects the ongoing convergence of traditional fiat systems and digital assets. This rollout expands Binance’s footprint in Asia’s travel corridors, providing a seamless payment experience that removes the need for manual currency conversion for tourists while maintaining familiar settlement processes for local business owners.
