Seven celebrity children who chose careers beyond fame

A firefighter, a chef, a police officer and a nanotechnology scientist are among the careers pursued by children of well-known entertainers. Rather than simply follow their parents into the spotlight, Samuel Springsteen, Ben Ford and others have built professional lives in fields ranging from childcare to television production.

Bruce Springsteen’s youngest child, Samuel, qualified as a firefighter in 2020. He studied at Monmouth County Fire Academy, took a civil service exam and gained experience through volunteer firefighting. Bruce, 77, and his wife Patti Scialfa, 72, are also parents to Evan, 36, and Jessica, 34.

Ben Ford, 60, chose cooking over Hollywood. After culinary school in the 1980s, Harrison Ford’s son opened several restaurants, including Ford’s Filling Station and Doorstep Market, and published Taming The Feast in 2014. Harrison, 84, shares Ben and William, 57, with his first wife, Mary Marquardt.

Annie Guest, 39, the adopted daughter of Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest, trained as a professional dance teacher and founded a studio in Los Angeles. In December 2025, she became a mother for the first time with her husband, Jason Wolf. Megan Ramsay, 28, studied psychology at Oxford Brooks University, briefly worked in film production and became a police officer with London’s Metropolitan Police. Her father, Gordon Ramsay, also has daughters Tilly, 24, and Holly, 26, and sons Jack, 26, Oscar, six, and Jesse, two.

Ulrika Jonsson’s daughter Bo, 25, trained at Norland College in Bath, earning its Norland Diploma in early years development and learning. She works as a professional nanny and travels internationally for her job. Madonna’s adopted daughter Mercy James, 20, works behind the scenes in television production at Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell, a close friend of Madonna, said Mercy had worked on the show for “a year or so.”

Katie, 34, daughter of Carol Vorderman, earned a PhD in nanotechnology from the University of Cambridge and co-founded space-tech start-up BioOrbit. She has also completed astronaut training at Astroland in Spain and an internship with NASA. Vorderman, 65, shares Katie and son Cameron, 29, with her ex-husband, Patrick King.
