Prince Harry wants to repair his relationship with King Charles, but an unnamed source quoted in a magazine report says he is also worried about what the family rift could mean for his financial future. There is no evidence Charles plans to change his estate arrangements or exclude Harry from an inheritance.
In a recent GQ interview, Harry said he wants to reconcile with his father. He said Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, are enjoying their new life back in England, and that he and Meghan have “opportunities” there. “I want to work it out,” he said. “The most important thing is to reconcile.”
The unnamed source told the magazine that Harry’s reported concern is tied to his wife and children, as well as his strained relationship with Prince William. The brothers are not believed to have spoken since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral four years ago. The source claimed Harry fears William could influence Charles’s decisions, but offered no evidence that the Prince of Wales has a role in his father’s estate plans.
The report cited the Sussexes’ expenses, including private security reportedly costing up to £5m, a £22m California mansion and a £6m holiday home in Portugal. It also said they are looking at a property in the Cotswolds worth around £12m. The source said the couple must keep generating income to maintain their lifestyle, while acknowledging Harry’s privilege.
Harry and Meghan left official royal duties in 2020 and pursued commercial projects and media deals. Their tell-all interviews and Harry’s memoir, Spare, were followed by a prolonged family rift. The Sussexes briefly visited Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove in July, the report said, but are not believed to have seen them since their return to the UK.
The source said Harry had expected relations with his father to improve, but claimed attempts to arrange meetings had been put off. Charles has delegated more responsibility to William, the report noted, while also saying the source believes that may be fuelling Harry’s concerns. Harry is said to want his children to have a close relationship with their grandfather, as he did with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
